Every engagement is different, and even within more standard services, client preferences and situations vary
Accordingly, the best approach is to design a tailored interaction model with the client team
As required, a full or partial traditional consulting team can be utilized
In any case, I am ultimately responsible for deliverables and recommendations, and conduct all client and customer interactions when applicable
The level and nature of client leadership and personnel involvement varies based upon the particular situation as well
Illustrative examples:
Collaborative engagement (e.g. Corporate Strategy):
- Utilize and guide 1 or more associates for research, analysis, etc.
- Data collection and joint review as required
- Periodic Steering Committee meetings with designated client leadership
- Interviews &/or workshops with designated client leadership per scope and approach
- Interviews &/or workshops with designated client SMEs (e.g. Product Management, Marketing, Sales) per scope and approach
- Potential to enroll appointed client functional experts for pre-defined periods (e.g. Marketing for 50% time for x weeks, FP&A for 25% time for x weeks)
More outside-in engagement (e.g. targeted due diligence focused on Voice of the Customer, M&A Screen):
- Introduction, alignment, collection of perspectives, etc. with client leadership and designated personnel
- Data collection as required
- Identification of specifics such as customer interview population or topic-specific criteria
- Research, interviews, analysis, etc. conducted independently
- Periodic check-ins and final report out with client leadership and designated personnel
